This IDC study examines the adoption and usage of mobile and wireless technology in the Australia small and medium-sized businesses (SMB) market. Based on the results from IDC's 2007 Enterprise Telecommunications, the study discusses Australia SMB use of cellular (mobile) voice and nonvoice services (including messaging and mobile data), device adoption, as well as preferred mobile operators. The study also includes trends on SMB landline substitution through the use of mobile phones. It also gauges the adoption of future technologies, including fixed/mobile convergence (FMC) and multimode handsets. Essential Guidance, aimed at assisting mobile operators and mobility solution providers take advantage of the opportunities, is also included.
"Australia SMBs are widely embracing mobile phones by either providing fully paid mobile phones to their employees or by reimbursing employees using their own mobile phone. Nonvoice spending is steadily increasing its impact in SMBs, swelling the mobile data portion driven by email, and nonspecific data consumption due to high-speed 3G/3.5G mobile networks," says Jean Marc Annonier, Research Manager, IT Spending, Vertical Markets and SMEs.
