This IDC study reviews the performance of the worldwide PC market during the second quarter of 2007 (2Q07). The study looks at the market performance of desktop and portable PCs and provides some commentary on x86 servers in major geographies, including the United States, Western Europe, Japan, Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan) (APEJ), and the rest of the world (ROW). Details on unit shipments, market value, and average selling price (ASPs) are provided, along with a review of the competitive performance of the top PC vendors.
"The PC market expanded by 13.5% in the second quarter, essentially driven once again by strength in consumer demand and better-than-expected commercial activity. As in previous periods, notebook shipments remained the leading form factor, even in budget and price-sensitive geographies, while desktop growth in mature regions remained under pressure, essentially continuing to contract," says Doug Bell, PC Tracker analyst.
