Abstract

This IDC study details the first of two parts of the results from IDC's 2007 Industry Adoption of Open Source Software Survey, which polled 158 end-user organizations, ISVs, and other IT solution providers in the United States regarding their attitudes toward and adoption of open source software.

"The key takeaway from IDC's 2007 Industry Adoption of Open Source Software Survey is that end users care about what software does and how well it does it, not how it is developed or distributed," says Matt Lawton, program director of Software Business Strategies Group at IDC. "Having said that, there are few inhibitors remaining to the adoption of open source software, with key drivers continuing to be the perception of low initial cost and low total cost of ownership."
