Growing market uncertainty is causing the postponement of most major projects that were in the pipeline before the tragic events of September 11. Only the most crucial upgrade and expansion investments are taking place today. The shrinking demand will cause further pressure on the server vendors leading to additional price erosion.
"
| "
Worsening economic conditions led to a contraction in demand that forced server vendors to take more aggressive measures to garner share. The resulting pressure on prices caused a greater decline in revenue than units. The overall decline could have been much worse had it not been for the initiatives and demand from government in most major markets.

While we are seeing early signs of recovery across the various Asia/Pacific markets, the sustenance of this trend depends on the revival of the U.S. and global economies.
"
| "
The markets continue to be in a cautious mode, with most organizations ensuring that the global economy is on its way to recovery before they launch any major investments. Amidst this challenging environment, server vendors can continue to expect increasing pressure on server prices and demand for higher value in terms of additional services.
"

The Asia/Pacific server market continues to improve as leading markets post strong year-on-year growth. However, war clouds loom large over the global economy, which is expected to dampen regional server investments in the first half of the year.
