This IDC presentation provides an overview of next-generation network (NGN) market activity in 2007.

It provides an understanding of the term NGN, the drivers behind the move to an NGN infrastructure and the implications for an organisation that deploys to a new NGN environment, as well as some international examples of NGN activity undertaken by service providers (SPs) — in the United States, Europe, and Japan.

IDC conducts its primary research through interviews with equipment vendors, SPs, and systems integrators (SIs) in Australia. It subsequently cross-checks with the distributors and resellers, as well as at the regional and worldwide levels to validate the total market size. Primary research is then supplemented with a range of secondary source material, including related IDC research, end-user surveys, press releases, securities filings, media, Web-based materials, pricing plans, and trade publications.
