Abstract

This IDC study provides the results of IDC's Exclusive Software Adoption Survey conducted in early 2007. The key objective of the survey was to understand and provide insights to the current open source software (OSS) adoption trends and future investment plans of enterprises in key Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan) or APEJ countries — Australia, Korea, India, and the People's Republic of China (PRC). This study also provides brief vendor and project profiles gathered through secondary research.

"The survey results from the four key APEJ countries indicate that the level of OSS adoption varies greatly throughout the region," says Prianka Srinivasan, market analyst, Software Research, IDC Asia/Pacific. "While organizations in emerging countries such as India and the PRC seem to be embracing open source technology, organizations in technologically advanced countries such as Australia and Korea remain laggards with regard to the deployment of open source technology."
