Abstract

This IDC study examines the performance of the two database management systems (DBMS) markets, the relational database management system (RDBMS) market, and the nonrelational database management system (NDBMS) market. It discusses their growth, key players, and likely near-term performance.

"The database management system markets have shown steady growth over the past four years, but that growth may be interrupted by the economic effects of the financial crisis in the fall of 2008," says Carl Olofson, research vice president of Information Management and Data Integration software research at IDC. "An economic slowdown may result in slower DBMS growth, but declines are unlikely and an eventual recovery is certain."
