Abstract

This IDC study provides a top-line view of the role green sustainability initiatives are currently playing in the engineering and construction services industry in both the United States and the United Kingdom. IDC's survey results show that the majority of our survey respondents in engineering/construction are supporting the adoption of environmentally friendly initiatives. This trend will require engineering firms, general contractors, and owner/operators to turn to software applications for infrastructure life-cycle management, project and portfolio management, and new product development.

Gisela Wilson, director of IDC's Product, Project, and Portfolio Management Solutions program, says, "The realization of green sustainability as a long-term societal goal will lead to a steady increase in the adoption of software applications that help to implement, track, and monitor innovative strategies in engineering and construction."
