This IDC Presentation, given at the Storage Networking World (SNW) conference in Dallas on October 17, 2007, details how major server and storage virtualization technologies (e.g., block/file virtualization, virtual data replication, and deduplication) will affect organizations' SAN infrastructure, data protection, disaster recovery, and data retention practices. Server virtualization and/or storage virtualization is in use or on the road map for many IT organizations. With all the different products and technologies appearing on the market, the real challenge is understanding how they all affect existing IT practices and each other. This presentation provides IT and storage managers with guidance on the best strategies for avoiding potential problems and setting up a highly reliable and automated "virtualized" datacenter.
