Abstract

This IDC study estimates revenue by the dimensions cited for the total worldwide packaged application market in the aggregate for the years 2004–2011. The packaged applications market demonstrated strong growth in 2006 as corporations and end users gravitated toward the usability, always-on availability, and increasingly global capabilities of off-the-shelf software programs regardless of how they accessed the technologies. Albert Pang, IDC research director of Enterprise Applications, said, "As custom development work is being replaced by packaged applications, the market is showing remarkable innovation as well as resiliency because of such factors as the march toward globalization, Web-based collaboration, and the growing mobility of business and casual users.''
