This IDC study presents a five-year forecast for the worldwide storage services market. Historical data for 2009–2013 and forecast data for 2014–2018 are provided. Worldwide storage services grew 5.6% to nearly $33.6 billion in 2013 and is forecast to grow to over $45.3 billion by 2018.
According to Paul Hughes, program director for Storage and Data Management Services research at IDC, "A few bright spots in Europe, stronger economic conditions in the United States, and continued growth in emerging economies have helped maintain consistent growth of storage services over the past few years. While storage hardware revenue is flat to down for a number of storage hardware suppliers, demand for maintenance and support services continues to grow, thanks to both contractual support relationships and support from new product sales. IDC expects to see an increased demand for front-end strategic consultative services and storage management services over the next three to five years as IT organizations look to the vendor and SI communities to help design, build, and manage newer up-to-date storage environments and embrace the cloud effectively."
