"Spending on IT services in South Africa will continue to grow strongly over the forecast period. IDC believes that IT projects relating to business efficiency will continue to fuel IT services investment. Another driver will be growing interest in new and emerging technologies to cut costs, improve operating efficiency, and increase productivity. Attracting and retaining staff, and creating sustainable business processes and structures will be the biggest challenges facing IT services vendors in this rapidly expanding market." – Pieter Kok, Research Analyst, IDC South Africa

Top 10 States in U.S. Applications Spending (October 23, 2008)

The U.S. Black Book (IDC #212875) is IDC's quarterly analysis of the status and projected growth of the IT industry in 50 states and across 15 vertical markets. In the past two years, Canadian companies have increased their outsourcing activity, measured by the number of contracts, by 15%. IDC Canada's recent research shows that outsourcing activity is anticipated to further expand by another 15% over the next two years. These contracts will be shorter in length and smaller in terms of dollar size than in the past. Outsourcing will also be more likely to spread across two or more best-of-breed suppliers. "With so many options and vendors to choose between, it is now more critical than ever before that buyers and providers cooperatively manage the relationship with an aim of aligning and adapting outsourcing to the evolving objectives of the client's business," says Mark Schrutt, research manager of IDC Canada. The outsourcing relationship was one of the key topics at IDC's Directions Canada 2008 conference, held on June 5, 2008. Directions Canada 2008 highlighted a number of timely themes that are shaping the information, communications, and technology industries. The role of contracting in the success of outsourcing was the subject of one of the panel discussions.
